Outreach

Todd Jarvis Using the Groundwater ModelThe Critical Groundwater Taskforce has teamed up with the Oregon State University Institute for Water and Watersheds to provide educational materials about groundwater in the Umatilla Basin. Below are links to resources - material will be added throughout Fall 2006. Please note that documents are saved in PDF format - to open them you will need to download and install the free program Adobe Reader.  The photo on the right is of Todd Jarvis using the groundwater model.

Outreach Opportunities and Materials:

  • Interactive Presentation About Groundwater - Bring a groundwater model (equiped with a professional hydrologist) to your classroom or meeting! The presentation helps participants visualize how groundwater moves and is stored underground. Read details in this flyer - UmatillaGroundwaterDemo.pdf (29k) or read thank you letters from a participating classrooms (McKay_Creek_Elementary.pdf (900k); Ione.pdf (688k)).
  • Overview Poster about the Umatilla County Critical Groundwater Task Force - Download here: UmatillaOverviewPoster_Summer2006.pdf (Please note: this poster is designed to be printed on paper 11"x17".)
  • Umatilla Basin Water Chronology - This historical chronology describes critical events and decisions that have impacted water usage in the Umatilla Basin since 1855. The chronology was prepared by water historian Dr. Catherine Howells. Download here: UmatillaChronology_March2006.pdf .
  • Conceptual Hydrogeologic Model of the Umatilla Sub-Basin - This three dimensional block diagram depicts changes in the elevation of the groundwater table. Download here: Umatilla_3-D.pdf (1.6MB)
  • Public Service Radio Ad - Download a 30 second radio ad about declining groundwater levels in the Umatilla Basin. The file is in mp3 format - you will need an audio player such as iTunes or Windows Media Player to listen to this file. Download here: sprinker2_1-2.mp3 (573 k)
