The HOPE (Hands on Parenting for Excellence) Program is a
home
visiting program that assists
families with newborn infants through early childhood. The
Umatilla
County Health Department would like to visit all families
with newborn
babies in Umatilla County soon after their return home from
the
hospital. It is our goal to see families within two weeks
after birth.
The amount of visits a family receives will depend on the
individual
needs.
A public health nurse will come for an initial home visit
and weigh
and examine your infant. The nurse will help you find the
answers to
questions that you may
have regarding the care of your newborn.
Public Health Nurses and/or Home Visit Specialists share the
latest
developmental information and show parents how to use that
information
to benefit their infant/child. The nurse/home visit
specialist will
work closely with parents to help them find and use the
resources in
the community that may be needed. Information on health
issues, such as
immunizations, will be given to the parents and
developmental screens
will be done. By giving help to expectant parents and new
parents soon
after their return home, we hope to improve the health of
Umatilla
County infants and children .
Families learn how to care for and better understand their children in the relaxed and comfortable settings of their homes
